I recently came across a story about an online scam that someone else experienced. Here’s how it worked:
They received a text message saying that their package could not be delivered and that they needed to click a link to update their address in order to receive it. Since they had recently ordered something, they didn’t think much of it and clicked the link.
The website that popped up looked legitimate and asked them to enter personal information, including their name, address, and some card details to “redeliver” the package. After submitting it, nothing happened. Later, they realized it was a scam and that their information had likely been stolen.
The purpose of this scam was to trick people into giving away personal and financial information. It worked by pretending to be a trusted delivery service and creating a sense of urgency so the person would act quickly without thinking it could be a scam.
Looking back, there were a few signs that showed it was fake. The message came from a random number, the link looked slightly off, and it did not include any specific details about the actual order. Real companies usually don’t ask for sensitive information through a random link.
There are ways to avoid scams like this: never click on suspicious links in texts or emails, always verify information by going directly to the official website, take your time before entering personal information, and check for small details that could give away a scam.
Seeing this happen to someone else shows how easy it is to fall for scams, especially when they seem very realistic. Being careful and aware can prevent these situations in the future.

Wow, that is crazy! Thank you for sharing. I hadn’t realized scams like this could be so convincing.
No problem. I hope by sharing this experience it gives more awareness to others.
That’s actually crazy! Seeing someone fall for this is wild. It’s good you shared it so others don’t make the same mistake.
Exactly, awareness to these scames are key. The more people know about these scams, the safer everyone can be online.
Thannks for posting this! It’s easy to overlook small warning signs, so it’s helpful to see an example.
Thanks for your response to my post. I hope others don’t experience the same problems as the scam that I found about online.
It is important not to rush, if you are at a computer you should always hover your mouse over a link and see the url that it will bring you to. Inspect the URL for misspellings (e.g., “amaz0n” vs “amazon”), verify it uses HTTPS (padlock icon), and check for poor grammar or missing contact info. Also look at the part of the url before the first /. That is the webspace you are really going to.
Search google for phishing and they will have good tips to be more internet safe.
Thanks for all of the tips. Observing scams like this really makes you realize how careful we all need to be.
